Two Northeastern Students Helping Increase IVF Success Through Co-op
Two Northeastern students––Jake Percival, E, mechanical engineering and bioengineering, and Tori Christianson, E, chemical engineering and bioengineering––are completing their co-ops at AutoIVF. They are working on a device that can find “hidden” egg cells in follicular fluid, helping to increase the chance of successful IVF by increasing the number of eggs retrieved.

New Project Combines Biology, Music, and Math to Display Limb Regeneration
A project named “Morphogenesis,” led by Garret Compston and MIE/BioE Professor Sandra Shefelbine, uses Alan Turing’s pattern with musical representation to portray the biological process behind how individual cells, tissues and organs develop their specific shapes and structures when the embryo is still developing.

Slavov Selected for ASMS Biemann Medal
BioE Professor Nikolai Slavov was selected to receive the 2026 Biemann Medal from the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS), which is awarded to an individual early in their career in recognition of significant achievement in basic or applied mass spectrometry and is among the most prestigious awards in that field.

Student Engineering Group Creates Affordable Wheelchair and Construction Manual for Capstone Project
One engineering Capstone group created a low-cost wheelchair out of wood and bicycle parts, also creating a step-by-step manual of the construction, making this wheelchair a more accessible solution to others who cannot afford a traditional wheelchair.
