Bioengineering PhD Candidate Jaclyn Lock awarded Travel Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers

Jaclyn Lock, a Bioengineering graduate student working under the advisement of Professor Rebecca Carrier of Chemical Engineering, was awarded a Travel Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). Jaclyn will be attending the AIChE annual meeting taking place in San Francisco, CA from November 13-18 to present her work related to intestinal inflammation. Her talk, entitled “Dextran Sodium Sulfate Exposure Affects Intestinal Mucus Integrity,” will describe results indicating that dextran sodium sulfate may result in inflammation is by disrupting the mucus that provides an essential barrier between gut contents, including microbes, and underlying tissues.
