Inaugural AJC Merit Research Scholars for Research Co-ops at Northeastern
Several engineering and science students mentored by COE faculty are recipients of the inaugural AJC Merit Research Scholars from Northeastern’s Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships. Oakes Receives ASME 2023 Y.C. Fung Early Career Award
BioE Assistant Professor Jessica Oakes was selected as the 2023 Y.C. Fung Early Career Award Medalist for outstanding work in respiratory mechanics that has significantly advanced the understanding of asthma, smoking, and inhalable drug delivery, and for strong advocacy in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

Ghana Biomedical Innovation Summit
The Department of Bioengineering in partnership with the non-profit 4GBI sponsored the Ghana Bioinnovation Workshop and the Ghana Bioinnovation Symposium. The two events attracted a total of over 300 attendees. Fact-finding visits of the Northeastern/4GBI team to rural health clinics, hospitals, and Academic City University College supplemented these events.

Sontag Receives IFAC Award on Non-Linear Control Systems
University Distinguished Professor Eduardo Sontag, ECE and BioE, received the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) Technical Committee Award on Non-Linear Control Systems, which is described as the “highest distinction on nonlinear control systems research”.

A group of COE professors are among the top scientists worldwide selected by Stanford University representing the top 2% of the most-cited scientists with single-year impact in various disciplines. The selection is based on the top 100,000 by c-score (with and without self-citations) or a percentile rank of 2% or above.

Using Impact Engine Funds To Capture Real-Time ICU Data
BioE/Khoury/Bouve Professor Rai Winslow is leading the project HEART (Healthcare Enabled by AI in Real-Time), from Northeastern’s Impact Engine program, which uses machine learning to collect data from ICU patients to predict any complications.
