Students Traveled to Ethiopia to Design Low-Cost Medical Equipment
Students from the Innovators for Global Health student group spent their spring break in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia helping the second largest hospital in the country design low-cost medical devices that could be made and maintained with locally sources parts.

Ruberti Awarded Grant for Low-Cost COVID-19 Diagnostics Testing
BioE Professor Jeffrey Ruberti, in collaboration with the University of California-Los Angeles and University of Massachusetts Amherst, was awarded a $150K NSF RAPID grant for “Low-Cost, Non-invasive, Fast Sample Collection System for COVID-19 Viral Load Level Diagnosis: Point-of-Care and Environmental Testing.”

Shefelbine Awarded Fulbright to Study Skeletal Mechanobiology
MIE/BioE Professor Sandra Shefelbine was awarded a Fulbright Futures Scholarship to the University of Melbourne to work on skeletal mechanobiology, particularly understanding how mechanical forces influence bone development.
